Martyrs Begin FA Cup Journey On The Road

The Martyrs' 2008/2009 FA Cup campaign begins with an away trip, in the First Qualifying Round, to either Poole Town (who beat Welton Rovers 1-0) or Willand Rovers (who beat Wadebridge Town 6-0).
Poole Town host Willand Rovers at Tatnam Road this Saturday in the Preliminary Road, with the winners hosting Merthyr a fortnight later (Saturday 13th September, kick-off: 3pm).

Willand Rovers FC
Formed in 1946, Willand are nicknamed "Rovers". The Devon-based club compete in the Toolstation Western Football League Premier Division, and play home games at their Silver Street ground (112 miles from Merthyr).

Poole Town FC
Poole Town, nicknamed "The Dolphins" began life in 1890, and are based at the Tatnam ground in Dorset (162 miles from Merthyr). The Dolphins compete in the Sydenhams Wessex Football League Premier Division, and are currently top of the table with four wins from four.

There were a total of 762 club entries for this year's competition. ITV and Setanta are the official broadcast partners of the FA Cup this season, with prize money for winning teams increasing from last season to:
Extra Preliminary Round (winners): £750
Preliminary Round (winners): £1,500
First Qualifying Round (winners): £3,00
Second Qualifying Round (winners): £4,500
Third Qualifying Round (winners): £7,500
Fourth Qualifying Round (winners): £12,500
First Round Proper (winners): £20,000
Second Round Proper (winners): £30,000
A statement from the FA's Official Website (http://www.thefa.com) reads:
"The FA distributes prize money and broadcast payments to clubs for their participation in The FA Cup. The FA’s stated objective is to use The FA Cup to redistribute funds throughout the game. Clubs winning ties receive money from The FA's Prize Fund, while for matches on TV, live or highlights, or on the radio, The FA pays the two competing clubs in each featured tie a fee from their Broadcast Fund."
